Boy Scouts receive Eagle Scout award
Scott Miller and John Mihelcic of Boy Scout Troop 34 were presented Eagle Scout awards by Bernie Hannig, VFW Post 1241 commander, during their meeting on March 7 in Staunton.
The ultimate goal of the Eagle Scout Rank is to show leadership by completing a service project that would help the local community in some way.
Scott's project involved repainting the restrooms and concession stand at the soccer complex.
John was in charge of landscaping the grounds on the west side of City Hall.
They organized, supervised and worked with other members of the troop to complete their projects.
The boys have been involved in scouting for nine years and have earned 21 merit badges including first aid, communications, camping, CPR, citizenship and personal management.
They have also held positions of leadership throughout their years in the troop and participated in many other community services such as Scouting for Food and putting out flags at the cemetery for Memorial Day.
Scott is the son of Bill and Patty Miller and John is the son of Ken and Dee Mihelcic.
Scout Troop 34 has been sponsored by VFW Post 1241 for more than 25 years.
